Mosaic : it is what?
The art of the mosaic consists in assembling various elements to create an image. These elements are called the “tesserae" ones. The tesserae are generally small pieces of stone, marble, enamels, glass, etc. The mosaic of art "par excellence" is made only with tesserae cut and placed at the hand.
Compared with other arts, the specificity of the mosaic of art is its particular, strange character, enigmatic, itself supported by a major beauty. Mosaic with the characteristic to be able to be also worked flat but in volume. It allows matter contrasts, it hangs the light and makes vibrate the colors. It creates either of the real relief, or of the virtual relief thanks to the juxtaposition of colors or with the shape of the tension fields of the tesselles ones. But over all, it is the dynamics of the tension fields of tesserae (the andamento) which, by giving him an interior movement, makes an undoubtedly different art of it.
The word of the artist!
My artistic way is very atypical and self-educated. Randomly of a voyage, there is about thirty years, I admired for the first time in the reality of the old mosaics. Their beauty literally envoûté me. Thanks to this meeting, and it is most important, I also realized that I felt and included/understood their interior movement, the andamento. A seed then fell into my head. One day, I would create my own mosaics! This dream however went trotter 25 years in my head before its realization.

In my workshop.
It is only in 2001, at the end of the occupation, which I could plunge me in the universe of the tesserae ones. I understood immediately that I had found a true writing and mean of communication. Indeed, taking into account the very important duration of the creation of a mosaic, the great revelation was precisely the paramount importance of the duration of the process of creation. Almost méditatif, it involves me in a bubble of emotion and sensitivity where time does not exist. It becomes today for me, the essential element which makes it possible to impregnate the work of the mysterious share of oneself which gives to work finished the magic capacity to become animated and to dialogue.
Today, I work mainly the smalti (preferably those of the Orsoni house), the molten glasses and the schist. My most outstanding creations are founded on concepts which I reveal in the abstraction. I am indeed persuaded that, thanks to the abstract art and even conceptual which privileges and amplifies its force and its movement, the mosaic of art can take its place in the contemporary modern art.
